Add a Little Positive

Working with the public has its ups and downs for sure, but it’s the ups that really make my day and make me enjoy what I do.

I met a man today and it wasn’t by coincidence because there’s no such thing. The man that came in today is a retired substitute teacher. He asked me if I had children and how old they were. When I told him - he told me how sixth grade is the most difficult for kids(mostly for girls). I agreed because I’ve been there and I told him how Jace had a rough start to middle school.

The man proceeded to tell me that before each class he taught he would stand in the hallway to greet and shake the hands of each student entering his classroom. Once they were seated, he would have them recite these seven things;

  • I’m Quick!

  • I’m Sharp!

  • I’m Bright!

  • I’m Smart!

  • I’m Rich

  • I’m Good Lookin’

  • And A Major Blessing!

The man then went on to say that he tells the students after they’ve recited these things that, ‘This is who you really are. Stop listening to the negative junk! It’ll mess up your life like it did mine. Start saying the truth about yourself instead of listening to and believing the lies.’

This man’s name is Mr. James Edwards and I, myself needed to hear all of this from him today and of course I passed the card with his phrases on to my twelve year old.

I suggest that everyone recite these daily and rid yourselves of the negative that’s all around. I know I need this even as an adult. This man is one of the good ones for sure and I’m grateful he was put in my life today! Thank you Mr. Edwards!
