Judge a Book By it's Cover?

Updated: Mar 21, 2023

Before I start this, I just want to throw out there, that while, I want to try to have some sort of order to what I post, sometimes I'm just feeling a certain way and need to write certain things.

We've all heard the saying, "don't judge a book by it's cover" right? Well, first off, I totally choose my books that way and 90 percent of the time, choosing the books with the brightest or most artistic covers are actually very good. Anyway, so many times in my life, I've felt like I'm the book and people have my cover all wrong.

I've been "labeled" a lot of things in my life up to now. Shy, quiet, a rule follower, most likely to - I don't know, live in a house with a white picket fence and have the perfect life? I've even been labeled things I'd rather not repeat in my teenage years and even in the last 3 years. None of which are completely me.

It's like that time in high school when I hung out with a "popular" guy from another school and he kissed me. A rumor got started that it wasn't just a kiss and of course, because it was high school, everyone believes the rumor mill and not the person actually involved. {sidenote: I'm also an overthinker who remembers things like this} Or maybe it's like that time right after my divorce when someone insinuated something about me because I get hit on every time I go out.

Am I saying I'm perfect? Of course not. Have I made wrong choices? Oh, ABSOLUTELY!{Don't think I could count on one hand all the 'bad choices' I've made over the last year. HaHa} But does that define me as a whole person? Heck no! I will be the first one to tell you that, yes I am a flirt. And yes, I dated a lot after high school and after my divorce. And yes, I was NOT the perfect, adoring wife that my cover said I was to be. Once you read through my pages and dig deeper into the story, there's so much more that the cover doesn't divulge. As is true with each and every person on this planet!

Start something with me when you read this. Reach out to someone you don't talk to on the daily or a co-worker that you typically just talk work with and invite them out for drinks or coffee. Get to know what's beneath the cover of their book. I bet you'll be surprised at what you find.
